Diane Hollems

Dr. Diane Hollems is Dean of Economic Development at Santa Barbara City College. She directs the SBCC Professional Development Center (PDC) which delivers short-term, credit training on site at both public agencies and corporate businesses in the Santa Barbara area.

The PDC training programs encompass the following areas:

  • Leadership Institutes
  • Management Institutes
  • Staff-level Professional Skills Institutes
  • MS Office Computer Applications (beginning, intermediate, advanced)
  • English as Second Language (ESL)
  • Spanish in the Workplace

Professional Development Center clients include: UCSB staff, Cottage Hospital, Sansum Clinic, Bacara Resort & Spa, Four Seasons Biltmore, County of Santa Barbara, City of Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara Zoo, Jordano’s Food Services, Community West Bank, Network Hardware Resale, Birnam Wood Golf Club, Select Staffing, and the Fess Parker Doubletree Resort among others.

 Dr. Hollems also directs the non-credit arm of the SBCC Scheinfeld Program for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. This exciting new Program involves both credit and non-credit entrepreneurship courses as well as individual business consulting provided through the SBA Small Business Development Network and SCORE counselors.

Dr. Hollems holds a B.A. degree in Communication with emphasis in Advertising, and a M.S. degree in Communication with emphasis in Intercultural and Organizational Communication from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She holds a Ph.D. in Communication Theory from Louisiana State University. Dr. Hollems’ work experience includes serving as Corporate Secretary of a mutual fund company and Vice President of Operations for a community television station as well as college-level teaching and administration. Dr. Hollems represents Santa Barbara City College at community economic development meetings and activities, is active in the Goleta Valley Chamber of Commerce, serves on the Santa Barbara Partners-In-Education Career-Technical-Education Committee, and the Advisory Committee for the Small Business Development Center.
