Danita Rodriguez

The oldest of five, Danita Rodriguez was born and raised in California. She grew up in the San Gabriel Mountains town of Wrightwood during her Jr. and Sr. high school years, engaging in activities such as snow and water skiing, backpacking, and hiking. Since Danita commenced her involvement in competitive sports at an early age, she initially explored becoming a physical education teacher. After working at Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area during the summer post high school graduation, she decided that she wanted to become a park ranger. Danita attended Victor Valley College and California State University, Long Beach before earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation and Park Management with a concentration in Interpretation from California State University, Chico.

She also attended the police academy at Butte College. During the summers while going to college, she worked seasonally at a number of State Parks including El Capitan and Refugio State Beaches, Gaviota State Park, Sugar Pine Point State Park (Tahoe), Humboldt Redwoods State Park, Portola State Park, Woodson Bridge State Recreation Area, Colusa State Park, Ide Adobe State Historic Park, and Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area.

Danita married her husband of 25 years after graduating from college and has raised two, now grown and married children. She went back to Silverwood Lake SRA for her first full-time, permanent ranger assignment. Currently, she is the Sector Superintendent, California State Parks, Santa Barbara Sector which includes Chumash Painted Cave SHP, El Capitan and Refugio SBs, Gaviota SP, La Purisima Mission SHP, and Pt. Sal SB.
